Exploring the Coordination Chemistry of N<sub>2</sub> with Technetium PNP Pincer-Type Complexes

Dinitrogen (N2) complexes of technetium (99Tc) are rare, and only two examples have been reported. To complement this important class also for 99Tc, different pincer-type 99Tc were studied to assess their abilities coordinating dinitrogen. The reactions the 99TcIII complex [99TcCl3(PPh3)2(NCCH3)] with pincer ligands PNPtBu PyrPNPtBu respectively gave [99Tc(PNPtBu)Cl2] [99Tc(PyrPNPtBu)Cl3], first structurally characterized mer-coordinated ligands. Reductions [Co(Cp*)2] under N2 mononuclear bis-dinitrogen [99TcI(PNPtBu)(N2)2] dinuclear [99TcI(PyrPNPtBu)(N2)Cl]2(μ-N2) both a bridging terminal ligand. Spectroscopy crystal structures confirm identities. stable dinitrogen atmosphere, tightly bound. results allow comparison its rhenium homologue, which has recently shown split ligand formation nitrido complex.

The novel chelating PNP pincer ligand 2,5-bis((diphenylphosphino)methyl)-1H-pyrrole (1) was prepared and its nickel coordination chemistry explored.
